The Year’s End (of the world?)

As I sit here…2012 has been…has been ROUGH! Honestly it has. My wife, kids and family have been great. 2012? Not so much

As I sit here the 2012 University of Texas Longhorns have no quarterback

As I sit here my grand ma died in 2012

As I sit here the Ortiz family has been hit hard with more downs than ups

As I sit here there is a Holy Discontent

As I sit here there is frustration

As I sit here my heart hearts

As I sit here I have hope

As I sit here I have faith

As I sit here I know “there is always tomorrow”

As I sit here I look forward to 2013…If the Zombie Apocalypse doesn’t happen on Dec. 21st.

Lord, Liar or Lunatic…

“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: “I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.” That is the one thing we must not say. A man who said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”    – C.S. Lewis

Monday Mind Dump…

Haven’t done these in awhile…

  • We had a great service yesterday, it wasn’t perfect, we had a few hiccups, but Jesus was glorified and the gospel was presented. We will work out those hiccups
  • I spoke on the doctrine of hell yesterday. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was gonna be.
  • After a year of church planting experience I am still learning so much. Not that I thought I would have it all down, but man. lol
  • I’ve always heard the we are the products of our environment. Today we had our fall teacher conference. Our boy’s teacher had some great things to say but one thing she said was this…”he says he wants to play for the church and be David Crowder when he grows up”. Environment, meet your product.
  • check out the new myspace…not too shabby [vimeo][/vimeo]
  • I never thought I could love my wife more…but oh I do.
  • I love our Revive Church Community, we are still young as a church, but they will rock your socks off with their big hearts.
  • Yesterday was good, today will be better, tomorrow will rock!

Left, Left,Left Right, Left…

Check this out.

I am equally talented with both of my hands. It’s weird, but I am. For example:

1) I write with my left hand, but I the guitar and throw with my right

2) I have my wallet and keys always on my left side, but wear my watch like a right handed person

3) I use a knife with my left hand, but then switch over and use a fork to pick it up…with my left hand

4) I open jars with my right hand, but use a hammer with my left

5) I use my razor with my right and brush my teeth with my left

5) I shoot a pistol with my left hand, but I am right eye dominate Continue reading “Left, Left,Left Right, Left…”

Lucky #7

On August 31st, 2005 a boy by the name Cephas Alexander Ortiz was born in Round Rock, Texas. I say it every year, but wow, where has the years gone. My boy is 7 today and in those short 7 years he has lived in 2 states, 3 cities, 3 youth ministries and he has helped us plant Revive church (oh yeah, it’s a family commitment).

He never ceases to amaze me. With his random quoting of movies, to his creative side or drawing and coloring, to his wanting to be a rock star and many more things…if you know him, you know what I am talking about. I love this kid. He has changed my life and I am better man because of him.

I can not believe that I get the honor to raise such an extraordinary boy. I see so much of me and so much of my wife in him, but my heart’s desire is to see Jesus in him. May God show me grace, mercy and patience to raise him and that my life be such a reflection of Jesus to him and may that be the greatest treasure/heirloom I leave behind for all our kids.
