I find it strangely odd that the older I get, the faster the days, weeks, months, years go by. I remember being in elementary school and the day just would draaaaaaaaaag on and on. Friday seemed so far away. Now is a different story, at times it seems like there is not enough time in the day to get everything I needed to get done. Life does go by at lighting pace at times and I have grown to love it. While there are times in which I have to “slow” down, I embrace the fast pace in which life is facing me. Know what to do…

At times during my life I noticed people (me included) making excuses for their short comings. Think about it, every day we can find the reasons why we missed the mark.

I have always believed that when a person knows what is expected of them, they should fall down dead before they fail to reach their objective. So then let’s make that our primary goal:

1)      To know what we expect from ourselves

2)      To put into action a plan to achieve the things we desire

If we point the finger at ourselves, who would be left to blame?

It’s on you…sink or swim, rise or fall, win or lose, live or die. Whatever should befall you resist the urge to make excuses. An excuse is a lot like a complaint – it insults everyone around you and makes you look silly and weak. Remember tough times make tough men, and if you can be tougher than the ground you walk on, you are tough enough to beat a path into this earth for others to recognize and follow.

That would be a real accomplishment in this world of shrunken expectations and lost dignity.

The heart is an IDOL factory

Why do we do the things we should not do?

I want to do right, I want to listen, I…I…I

Sometimes we listen and other times…we listen, but still do what WE want. It reminds me of this piece of scripture…

2 Kings 17:14-15 (The Message)

But they wouldn’t listen. If anything, they were even more bullheaded than their stubborn ancestors, if that’s possible. They were contemptuous of his instructions, the solemn and holy covenant he had made with their ancestors and of his repeated reminders and warnings. They lived a “nothing” life and became “nothings”—just like the pagan peoples all around them. They were well-warned: God said, “Don’t!” but they did it anyway.

Tim Keller says it well …“There is always a reason for sin.  Under our sins are idolatrous desires…Sin isn’t only doing bad things; it is more fundamentally making good things into ultimate things.  Sin is building your life and meaning on anything, even a very good thing more than God.  Whatever we build our life on will drive us and enslave us.  Sin is primarily idolatry.”

John Calvin said…” Truly, the human heart is an idol factory”

IDOL…let’s talk more about it shall we?

And it all comes together

So with the words “RE” and “vive” we have come to a word that to me just blows me away and if you guessed it, it is the word REVIVE.

REVIVE defined is:

to activate, set in motion, or take up again.

to return to life, consciousness, vigor, strength, or aflourishing condition,

to be quickened, restored, or renewed, as hope, confidence, suspicions, or memories.

I don’t know about you, but that word, just gets these feet jumping. The work done on the cross by Jesus Christ gives us a “REdo” to “live”(vive) again. NO matter where we are at, no matter where we come from, no matter what we have done, we get a second chance at life.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.)

Psalm 71:20 rings true with me when it says “You who have made me see many troubles and calamities
will REVIVE me again; from the depths of the earth you will bring me up again.”

Live your life…

Apparently I am in a mode in which I am digging small words. Small words is where it is at, I like big words like antidisestablishmentarianism and what not, but for me right now it’s about the small words. My earlier post was about the word “RE”, and today I want to stick with the small word model one more time.

Maybe it is my Latin roots, but the word is Vive. The Spanish word ‘vive‘ comes from the verb ‘vivir‘, which means ‘to live’. Sit on that for a bit. TO LIVE. You live, I live, we all live…or do we?

The movie Braveheart has a great quote…”Every man dies, but not every man truly lives”

The movie Wall*e has one too…”I don’t want to survive, I want to live!”

Psalm 139:13-16 (ESV)

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them

The above scripture reminds me that I am here for a reason/purpose that I am not merely here to take up space on this third rock from the Sun.

We are all called to VIVE…are you?
