What are we going to do today dad?

I must hear that question at least 12 times a day. I am a stay at home dad.

photo-1Since we launched Revive Church I work from home. I love it and to be honest at times I love it less. I am amazed on how my kids have to know what we are going to do today. I don’t know if it’s just mine or it’s like this all over, but man, if deviate from one thing I said we are going to do. You would think I kicked them both in the head…They hate it.

So in the morning when they wake up…”dad, what are we going to do today?” after breakfast…”So, ummmm dad. What are we going to do today?” After snack…”Soooooo, dad…We were wondering what we are going to do today?”

On and On…everyday. Then it occurred to me and maybe it’s because I am a “glass half full” kinda guy, but it hit me.

I think they are looking to see if what we do is actually what I said we were going to do. It’s like they are fact checking me, but also that reminder of “oh yeah, dad said we are going to do this and do that.”  Something in them that drives them to ask…”Dad, are you going to do what you said you are going to do.”

This reminds me so much of my personal walk with God…”Uh, God…are you going to do what you said you were going to do?”photo

I find my prayers have been drifting in that area. Doubt, fear, unease…it’s all there at times. Then God brings back reminders, confirmations through his word:

2 Peter 1:4

And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Matthew 11:28-29

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Isaiah 40:29-31

He gives power to the weak
and strength to the powerless.
Even youths will become weak and tired,
and young men will fall in exhaustion.
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.

Philippians 4:19

And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:37-39

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Proverbs 1:33

But all who listen to me will live in peace,
untroubled by fear of harm.”

John 14:27

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

So when I put them to bed last night and gave them a kiss, without fail the boy asks…

another go around…

So there has been a long break since my last post…like since Nov. of 2012.

There are quite few excuses I can use for the long hiatus, but none of them are good enough. The purpose of this blog was to post thoughts of a church planter in the Austin, Texas Metro area. An area called the “grave yard” of failed church plants. Like an 80% failure rate.

Well to sum it up in short there are a 2 things why the long break:

1) Laziness: I usually pride my self on knocking stuff on my “to do” list, blogging always one of those on the list that “could wait”

2) Afraid: I have always tried to tow the line. Don’t wanna upset the group or that group. I’m a people pleaser. I got to stop doing that.

So I am going to give this another shot. What could it hurt right?

A Blessing…

May God bless you with a restless discomfort

about easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships,

so that you may seek truth boldly and love deep within your heart.

May God bless you with holy anger

at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people,

so that you may tirelessly work for justice, freedom, and peace among all people.

May God bless you with the gift of tears

to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation,

or the loss of all that they cherish, so that you may reach out

your hand to comfort them and transform their pain into joy.

May God bless you with enough foolishness

to believe that you really can make a difference in this world,

so that you are able, with God’s grace, to do what others claim cannot be done.

Monday Mind Dump…

Haven’t done these in awhile…

  • We had a great service yesterday, it wasn’t perfect, we had a few hiccups, but Jesus was glorified and the gospel was presented. We will work out those hiccups
  • I spoke on the doctrine of hell yesterday. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was gonna be.
  • After a year of church planting experience I am still learning so much. Not that I thought I would have it all down, but man. lol
  • I’ve always heard the we are the products of our environment. Today we had our fall teacher conference. Our boy’s teacher had some great things to say but one thing she said was this…”he says he wants to play for the church and be David Crowder when he grows up”. Environment, meet your product.
  • check out the new myspace…not too shabby [vimeo]https://vimeo.com/50071857[/vimeo]
  • I never thought I could love my wife more…but oh I do.
  • I love our Revive Church Community, we are still young as a church, but they will rock your socks off with their big hearts.
  • Yesterday was good, today will be better, tomorrow will rock!

30 days

Been out of the social media machine for the last 30 days. I do this twice a year or so. It’s healthy for me (anyone) to just “unplug”. Here is what I missed out on while I was away

Posting about:

1) The whole chickfila controversy…I used to call it “Christian Chicken”, now I call it “Controversial Chicken”.  Continue reading “30 days”
