I love our launch team…I will not apologize for saying that every time I talk about them. They encourage us so much, they challenge us so much, they make us laugh so much. They are the heart and soul of what Revive Church will be. This group of men and women decided to change what is normal for them and decided to try the un-normal…leaving the known and going into the unknown…I could go on but I will stop there.
This last weekend the launch team (minus Chris M.) all meet up in Dallas, Texas to be prayed over by our Network covering. It was so great having the entire team there. Prior to that we met up at Chili’s and during conversation I brought up something that me and Matt were discussing on the trip to Dallas. The topic here isn’t important but it is one of the topics that people in the church world have two very distinctive camps.
As a new church plant we have no history, we can not say “We’ve never done it that way before”…So what we are left is with our own prior experiences in the churches we have grown up in, the pastors that taught us, the convictions that we personally have, the church culture that we live in and most important the Holy Scriptures.
So when this topic was brought up I could see some of the group look at me like…”What did you just say?”
I was expecting that and for a bit we talked…but then we had to leave. So on Monday I emailed the group and we began to discuss the topic again…there are some that are on the fence, some that are on the left side and still others on the right.
We as a launch team are stretching each other in a major way as Proverbs 27:17 says “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” This is what we are doing to one another. There is no fighting, no yelling, no jumping ship, just pure discussion.
You wanna know why? One of the ladies put it so clearly…“WE HAVE TO KEEP THE MAIN THING, THE MAIN THING”
The topic or many other non-eternal topics we believers love to argue about isn’t THE MAIN THING and a lot of the times we lose sight of that. We will fight that worship music should just be Hymns, and syncopated beats are of the devil or post trib, pre trib, trib or King James Bible only. I could go on, but I wont, but I hope you get the picture.
We fight, we fight, we fight over stuff that isn’t the MAIN THING…
We fight while there is a World, a country, a region, a state, a city, a neighborhood, a community, a friend that needs to hear of the Saving work of Jesus Christ.
Let us not forget to “KEEP THE MAIN THING, THE MAIN THING”
